Impact of environmental pollution and AhR signaling in hepatic carcinogenesis

“Hepatocellular carcinoma, the most frequent primary liver cancer, is the sixth most common cancer and the second leading cause of cancer-related death worldwide. Hepatocellular carcinoma commonly arises in patients with underlying chronic liver disease, and is considered a typical inflammation-associated tumor. Although heavy alcohol consumption, viral hepatitis, and non- alcoholic liver disease are major risk factors for liver cancer worldwide, recent evidence indicates that environmental pollutants are associated with liver cancer.”
